...a choleric sanguine, first-born, and a left-brainer.

The American Obsession;

"Be Yourself."

Myself, eh? Hm. Who IS myself, anyways?

We, in many ways, decide who we are and are forever going to be in our teen years. Many go through an identity crisis, even. I see on the faces of teens everywhere: "Who am I?" That’s a painfully scary question.
I admit it: I’m addicted to personality quizzes. I’ve done many of them over my lifetime, and I’m consistently asking my friends questions, trying to figure them out, too. I find so much joy in individuality. Mine and other’s. Also, I’m an absolute sucker for psychology! If you like psychology: keep reading!
So, let’s see who I am as a material human being.

I’m a left-brainer with supportive right qualities; meaning, I have most of these below qualities: though also can have right brained tendencies.

                                                                        Left Brain qualities;
Good Spellers, Perfectionist, Analytical, Articulate (Verbal skills, speaks well), Reads Directions, Organized (Likes everything in their proper place), Makes Lists, Rigid (Not pliable, non-negotiable), Tends to be Cynical/Sarcastic, Does Well on Tests, Black & White Absolutes (Facts, rules & absolutes are important), Focused, Learns instruments easily (Piano, flute or other similar instruments), Loyal, Careful or Cautious (Not impulsive), Likes Structure (Runs tight ship), Good Memory (Facts, numbers, faces and names), Likes to Teach or Correct, Can be Clueless to Feelings, Always needs to know why, tends to debate, Record Keeper, Learns Language Easily, Performance is important, Sees potential problems, red flags; may throw
water on new ideas, Easily Annoyed (Annoyed at lack of professionalism), Likes Documentaries, Note Taker, Good Grammar Skills, Good at Research, Can be Negative/Critical, Prefer Writing Fact over Fiction, Good at expressing themselves in words, Non-Emotional, Good at math, Likes to read, Very Logical, Dog lovers, Don't enjoy clowning around, Isn’t gullible, Need total quiet to read or study, Likes to read realistic stories, Likes to write non-fiction, Not very creative, Prefer individual counseling, Enjoy copying or tracing pictures and filling in details, Also like to read action stories, Usually rational, Usually do things in a planned, orderly way, Doesn’t let personal feelings get in the way, Can remember verbal material, Almost never absent minded, Can think better sitting down, Critical, Attentive during long verbal explanations, Prefer well structured assignments over open ended ones, Read for specific details and facts, Skilled at sequencing ideas, Likes to be Organized

Oh boy, that is so me. I find it amazing that I can honestly say to other girls, when asked; "You know why I’m not as emotional as you? I’m left brained!" But then I can turn and say; "You may not like that aspect of your personality, but look at that awesome work of art. You’re more right brained. I couldn’t do that if I had to."
Those traits don’t describe you? You’re probably a right brainer. For more on the right side, visit here (more).
Interested yet? How many siblings do you have? Are you the oldest, the second, or the third?
I’m the third, but with 14 years between myself and the 2nd. So…you would never know I wasn’t the oldest. I act and feel oldest.

Traits of the oldest child;

Natural Leader, High Achiever, Organized, On-time, Responsible, Obeys the rules, Tend to be    selfish with possessions and attention, Independent, Reliable, Conscientious, Cooperative,
Has an innate fear of being dethroned, Driven, Assertive, Know-it-all, Bossy, Perfectionists, Feels as though they are never good enough, Aggressive,Team-Players, Strong need for approval from those in charge, People Pleasers, Controlling, Overly confident, Dominate, Expects perfection from others, Intolerant, Competitive, Always have things under control, Energetic, Logical, Ambitious, Enterprising, Scholarly, Does not like to be told what to do, Not creative, Doesn’t work well with no direction

Sound like me yet? Think so. Psychologists are amazing. Not you? Here’s more on the middle child (more), and the youngest (more).
Now. Are you a phlegmatic, a choleric, a sanguine, or a melancholy? Don’t know? I’m a choleric sanguine. Meaning I hold to some sanguine tendencies, but I dominantly have the strengths and weaknesses of the choleric.

Choleric traits:
Is self-composed; seldom shows embarrassment, is forward or bold, is eager to express himself before a group if he has some purpose in view, is insistent upon the acceptance of his ideas or plans, is argumentative and persuasive, exhibits strong initiative; tends to elation of spirit; seldom gloomy or moody, prefers to lead, reacts strongly to praise or blame, is not given to worry or anxiety, seclusive, is quick and decisive in movement; pronounced or excessive energy output (and you guys ask why I always break my bones!), is marked tendency to persevere; does not abandon something readily regardless of success, is characterized by emotions not freely or spontaneously expressed, except anger, makes best appearance possible, craves for great success in temporal affairs, very ambitious, aspires to the noble and heroic, usually endowed with considerable intelligence, strong-willed, good secret-keepers, strong passions, subconscious impulse to dominate others

The dark side of the choleric:
Full of himself, very stubborn and opinionated, great deal of self-confidence, generally proud, domineering and inordinately ambitious, feels deeply hurt when he is humiliated or put to shame, lack of sympathy

Ok. I guess I can understand why I’m scary to some people. ::laughs::
I’m very sociable, and am secondarily a sanguine. But my faults, 99% of the time, fall within the choleric perimeters. Not you? Partly you? Check these out! Melancholy (more), Sanguine (more) , Phlegmatic (more).

Funny thing: When we add these up: I have been shown, 3x over, that I shouldn’t even attempt to draw anything. ::laughs::

(A few more details and personality details)
Introvert/Extrovert: Sanguines love socialising, and Cholerics have the confidence to interact socially. A Melancholy can be more of an intellectual, and thus somewhat less social, and Phlegmatics just don't mind either way.
Sensing/Intuition: A Melancholy seeks facts to come to conclusions; a Sanguine may go with what feels right; while a Choleric's decisions are based on their own opinion - without those opinions necessary being fact-driven.
Thinking/Feeling: This is about how people process the world around them, and the most obvious observations are that Melancholies like facts, whereas Sanguines have a leaning towards emotions.
Judging/Perceiving: Whereas perceiving is all about simply making observations, judging involves allocating value to the observations (right/wrong, good/bad, etc.). Since a Melancholy is about "the right" way, and Cholerics are about "my way", they tend to be more on the judgmental scale. Phlegmatics, being "easy way", are more about perceiving.

"Be Yourself"

The american obsession. The problem is this: the pressures of this world to be the best, the prettiest, and the most talented are never ending. No girl can measure up to celebrities of today. Even the boys have major celeb competition. What if you're shy? All your friends run in the popular crowd, and you can't understand why you can't just be like them. Does it matter?
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.
-Jeremiah 1:5

No. It doesn't. You're special the way you are! That scripture makes it clear that I'm suppose to have frizzy brown hair. ::laughs::  We are not mistakes. As a Christian, you are the child of the most high G-d: and he loves you with an everlasting love. Don't ever forget that. You may not meet the world's standards as the best: but can those same people say they are hand-picked ambassadors for Christ? We're talking living in this world for 70 years. Then spending eternity with Christ in heaven: and He couldn't care less if your hair lays flat or how much you weigh (He made you that way!)
So the bottom line is this: you’re special. There is nobody like you in this world. Don’t try to be anybody else.

 "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." -1 John 4:9-10

  1. I'm feeling an inspiration from beneath the surface here!!!!

    I agree, you are very left brained. I am highly right brained, as you have probably already realized. both my parents are left brained. sometimes it is easier to interact and understand people in your family, if you know what side they are dominant at :)

  2. Wow, Aubrey, this was great! I confess to devouring it as soon as I saw the title. Didn't even look to see how long it was. I love psychology, too.

    And wow, I've never taken actual personality tests before, but from what you shared, I'm a definite Left-brainer, except for the fact that I'm insanely creative. I inherited the left-brained stuff from my dad, and the right-brained stuff from my mom. I have the "best of both worlds", to quote a certain young celebrity I'm emberassed to name (NO! I Don't Listen To Hannah Montana! I swear!) lol

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. @Noah- Yes, I'd agree there's something wrong with you. See a doctor. ;)

    @Ellen- You sure you don't like HM? ;)

    @Heather- YES! It is so much easier to communicate with people when you know which is the dominate side of their brain. So nice to know!

  5. I tried...the doctor ended up having an emotional breakdown and had to be escorted out of the room sobbing his head off and muttering something about needing a doctor.
