...quote #8

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."

-C.S. Lewis

  1. Hello Aubrey,
This is a quote that I like very much and have shared with people over the years. The last time I shared it, it was with a family who is trying to adopt from foster care. Each time they go to committee, their hopes are raised and they begin to be attached to the children who are "up for grabs". Thus far, their hopes have been dashed and their hearts have been left aching as they have not been selected. Should they close their hearts to future children? No! There is often much pain when we choose to love, but it's so worth it! The world offers cheap, imitation love - much like the contrast between Disneyland (The Happiest Place on Earth) and Heaven - there is No competition! God is love - we love because He first loved us - Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; Sounds a little different than the usual definition, it even sounds a little painful - but the reward is enormous. The Lord's ways are Always the best! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and things that move you here on your blog. I always enjoy reading what's in you heart. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
