...abide in Him

I'm very independent.
Very independent.
And sometimes, and in some ways, I wish I was more like my dog.
Yes. My dog.
This little guy cannot stand to be alone. Cocoamo is almost 2, and a big sweetheart. If that boy can get to you (and believe me, he'll sacrifice a lot if he sees a possibility), he will. While I'm trying to use the computer (...and write blog posts...), while we're painting, while I'm trying to take a nap (and the only free area is between me and the hot fireplace), while I'm cooking(now, that might have something to do with the food present, but never mind), while I'm sleeping, when I'm outside in the garage, while I'm cleaning my room. The list goes on! He can't stand to be alone. He wants to be near us all the time. And he loves to be in your arms (and if my arms happen to be unavailable, he'll come sit on me.)
The comes the 3 year old. Oh, boy! If Cocoamo even gets a glimpse of my 3 year old nephews mom (it doesn't even have to be him, it can be him mom), he goes charging across the house and finds the empty lap of a big person faster than you can say "white dress." Then, he sits in your lap, tense and on-guard, until the tyrannical enemy leaves the house and he can relax again.

To be honest with you, prayer and fellowship with G-d is in my thoughts at night before I got to bed, and in the morning, during my devotional time. After that, unless there is a prayer request, G-d often becomes an afterthought. This should not be: http://myworldisquiethere.blogspot.com/2011/02/john-152-5.html

If I'm at home, my "time" with Cocoamo is almost uninterrupted. He wants to be with us all day, in a constant state of "fellowship" and interaction. And when times get tough, I'm the first one he runs to. He comes and hides under my arms until the storm passes.
We should all be more like that.

G-d is the vine. Abide in Him. (John 15:2-5)

  1. Thank you for the post, Aubrey. I have a big dog named Mandie (she's a German Shorthaired Pointer), and she's not happy unless she's with us.
I totally related to your example of your dog running to your arms, and how we should run to God that way. Thank you! :) I'm going to be thinking about this.
